You can sculpt in VR on a Meta Quest without a PC by using a standalone app that runs on the headset. Clayground is a free example: it runs on Quest 2, 3, 3S and Pro, saves to the headset, and exports GLB or OBJ files you can download over Wi-Fi. Some other VR sculpting tools need a PC connected to the headset, so check each app’s store listing.
What you need
- A Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S or Pro. Clayground lists these on its store page.
- Enough clear space to stand or sit comfortably; sitting works fine for sculpting.
- A Wi-Fi network, only to download the app and to move exported files off the headset.
- No PC, cable or link software.
Getting started in about ten minutes
- Install Clayground from the Meta Quest store.
- Follow the first-sculpt steps in Getting started, or the longer VR sculpting guide.
- Add clay, carve, smooth and paint with your hands; use layers to keep parts separate.
- Export GLB or OBJ, then follow Get files off the headset to download them in any browser with a pairing code.
What you give up compared with PC VR
A standalone headset has less memory than a gaming PC, so very large, very detailed projects are harder. That is why PC-linked tools exist, and why a professional pipeline may still want one (the Adobe option). For characters, creatures and props, standalone is plenty, and not needing a computer is the whole appeal. Clayground’s own notes say headset memory still limits how much detail fits.
Not ready to buy a headset, or no headset yet?
Try the clay in a browser first. The free browser studio uses a related idea and works on any computer or phone. You can move a sculpt between browser and headset as a GLB; the browser studio cannot open Quest project files.
