A phone party game, in the style Jackbox made popular, runs on one shared screen (a TV, a laptop, or a stream) while each player uses their own phone as the controller, joining with a short room code in the browser. Clayground's two free ones are Blend In, a prop hunt where you hide in a clay scene, and Sculpt-off, where everyone sculpts the same silly prompt and votes. Both are free, with no app and no account.
The two games
| Blend In | Sculpt-off | |
|---|---|---|
| What you do | Hide in a clay scene as a copy of one of its props; the seeker hunts | Sculpt the same prompt in 90 seconds, then vote |
| Players | 2 to 12, or up to 50 in streamer mode | 2 to 8 |
| A round | 15 s to study, 50 s to hide, then the hunt | 90 s to sculpt, 30 s to vote |
| Good for | Families, mixed ages, streams | Creative groups, people who like drawing games |
Blend In: prop hunt in clay
Everyone studies a cute clay scene: a bakery counter, a toy shelf, a veggie patch or a cosy desk. Then the seeker looks away and everyone else sneaks in as a copy of one of the props, placed somewhere believable. The seeker gets a few taps to spot what's new. Surviving scores the most, and you can make your prop squeak for bonus points if you're brave. More about Blend In.
Sculpt-off: a drawing game, with clay
A prompt appears, like a potato with big dreams or a shy volcano, and everyone sculpts it on their phone in 90 seconds. All the sculpts go up on the big screen and everyone votes. With just two players it changes to Guess what it is: you each sculpt a secret prompt and guess the other's. More about Sculpt-off.
How to host
- Open clayvr.com/play on the screen everyone can see and press Host a game.
- Everyone opens clayvr.com/play on their phone and types the four-letter code, or scans the QR code.
- Pick a game on the big screen and press start when everyone's in.
- If a phone drops out, open the same link again and choose Rejoin. A player comes back as themselves, score and all.
Ideas for a good game night
- Start with Blend In: nobody has to be good at anything, and the reveal makes everyone laugh.
- Switch to Sculpt-off once people are warmed up. The worst sculpts are the best ones.
- Finish with a Smoosh brawl: up to eight people, and the fight plays on every phone.
- Playing over a video call? Share the host screen; everyone joins with their own phone.
- Streaming? Blend In's streamer mode lets your whole chat hide while you seek.
For mixed ages
Both games work across a wide range of ages. There's very little to read in Blend In: you look, you hide, you tap. Sculpt-off's prompts are silly rather than rude (a grumpy cupcake, a duck in a raincoat), and nobody needs to be good at art, because the funniest sculpt tends to win. Younger kids may want a grown-up next to them for the first round, mostly to stop them peeking when they're the seeker.
How this compares with Jackbox
Jackbox makes polished party packs with lots of games, sold as paid packs where one person buys and everyone else joins free on their phones. These are two small free games made by one artist. If you love Jackbox, you'll know how to play these in seconds; if you want a free game for tonight with no purchase, they're a good place to start.
