glTF to OBJ
- Kept. shape and colours.
- Dropped. textures, bones and animation.
- Size. Written in the unit you pick, millimetres for printing.
The two types
- glTF. glTF is the open standard for 3D on the web. A .gltf file is JSON that points at a .bin and picture files; GLB packs all of it into one. Opened by Blender, Unity, Godot, Unreal and every web 3D library, including three.js and Babylon.js.
- OBJ. OBJ is a plain-text shape format. It holds the surface and its UV coordinates, with materials in a separate .mtl file, and no bones or animation. Opened by Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, MeshLab, ZBrush, Windows 3D Viewer and almost every other 3D program.
Questions
How do I convert glTF to OBJ?
Drop the glTF file and its picture files on this page, check the size under What’s inside, and press Download OBJ. It runs in your browser, so there is no upload and no wait.
What does glTF to OBJ keep?
OBJ keeps the shape and colours. It has no place for textures, bones and animation, so those are dropped.
What size will the OBJ be?
OBJ has no units. The page writes the unit you pick under Write as, and the program that opens it decides what a number means: Blender reads OBJ as metres, slicers as millimetres.
My glTF has textures. Do I drop them too?
Drop the .bin file and the picture files together with the .gltf. Names are matched whatever folder they came from.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and converted in your browser, and it stays on your device.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on files.
