FBX to OBJ
- Kept. shape and colours.
- Dropped. textures, bones and animation.
- Size. Written in the unit you pick, millimetres for printing.
The two types
- FBX. FBX is Autodesk’s format for animated models: meshes, bones, animation and materials. It is closed, so few tools read it well. Opened by Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Unity and Unreal Engine.
- OBJ. OBJ is a plain-text shape format. It holds the surface and its UV coordinates, with materials in a separate .mtl file, and no bones or animation. Opened by Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, MeshLab, ZBrush, Windows 3D Viewer and almost every other 3D program.
Questions
How do I convert FBX to OBJ?
Drop the FBX file and its picture files on this page, check the size under What’s inside, and press Download OBJ. It runs in your browser, so there is no upload and no wait.
What does FBX to OBJ keep?
OBJ keeps the shape and colours. It has no place for textures, bones and animation, so those are dropped.
What size will the OBJ be?
OBJ has no units. The page writes the unit you pick under Write as, and the program that opens it decides what a number means: Blender reads OBJ as metres, slicers as millimetres.
My FBX has textures. Do I drop them too?
Pictures stored inside the FBX work as they are. Pictures stored beside it need dropping together with it.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and converted in your browser, and it stays on your device.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on files.
