- Dropped. textures, bones and animation.
- Size. Written in the unit you pick, millimetres for printing.
- Up axis. PLY stands on Z. The page turns the model for you.
The two types
- GLB. GLB is glTF in one file: shape, materials, textures, bones and animation. Web viewers, AR, Unity, Godot and Blender all read it. Opened by Blender, Unity, Godot, Unreal, Windows 3D Viewer and any web browser with a viewer page.
- PLY. PLY stores points or triangles with a colour per vertex. 3D scanners and photogrammetry tools write it. Opened by MeshLab, CloudCompare, Blender and most scanning software.
Questions
How do I convert GLB to PLY?
Drop the GLB file on this page, check the size under What’s inside, and press Download PLY. It runs in your browser, so there is no upload and no wait.
What does GLB to PLY keep?
PLY keeps the shape and colours. It has no place for textures, bones and animation, so those are dropped.
What size will the PLY be?
PLY has no units. The page writes the unit you pick under Write as, and the program that opens it decides what a number means: Blender reads OBJ as metres, slicers as millimetres.
Why does my PLY lie on its side in the slicer?
GLB stands on its Y axis and slicers use Z. The Z up box, on by default, turns the model so it sits flat on the plate. Untick it for a program that expects Y up.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and converted in your browser, and it stays on your device.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on files.
