About Slip Surf
Slip Surf is a surfing game made of clay, in the spirit of the surf maps of Counter-Strike: Source and Garry's Mod. The ramps are too steep to stand on. Land on one and you do not stop: you slide, and the whole game is steering that slide so you keep your speed instead of losing it.
The movement is the old Source movement, at 66 steps a second: friction on the floor, a small push in the air, and a cap on how much speed a key can add. Nothing is added to make it easier. Each course was finished by a bot that plays with the same keys as you.
How to surf
- Walk with W A S D, look with the mouse and jump with Space. On a phone, use the stick on the left, drag the right side to look, and hold JUMP.
- Walk off the edge of the table onto the slope of the ridge. Keep the top of the ridge beside you and hold the key that pushes you toward it (D when it is on your right, A when it is on your left). Never press W or S on a slope. Let go and you slide off the ridge and fall.
- Turn your view along the ramp as it bends. In the air a key adds speed along the way you press, so a turn made while you hold a side key is a free push. This is air strafing, and it is how a surfer gets faster than a runner.
- On the floor, keep Space held to bunny hop. Landing and jumping in the same step skips the friction, so you keep what you built. The menu turns this off if you want to tap.
- Click to shoot the floating cookies. Each one is half a second off your finish time.
- Cross the hoop at the end of a stage and you are taken to the next table. A fall puts you back on the table your stage began on, with the clock still running. R starts the course again, and Esc opens the menu.
The courses
Every course is a ridge of clay over open sky, in stages, like a staged surf map. Warm Slide has two stages of wide ridge with gentle bends. Gap Jam has four and breaks the ridge with gaps, so you leave one slope in the air and catch the next. Cinnamon Swirl has three and winds round in long spirals that need the view to turn with it.
Your finish time is the clock less the cookies you shot. Your best times stay on your device.
Made for people who know the old maps
If you have surfed in Counter-Strike: Source or Garry's Mod, the keys do what you expect: the same speeds, the same gravity, the same slope that will not hold a player. If you have not, the first course is slow on purpose.

Questions people ask
Do I need to sign in?
No. Your best times are kept on your device only.
I keep sliding off the ramp. What am I doing wrong?
Hold the side key toward the ramp the whole time you are on it, and turn your view along it. Without the key the slope pulls you down and off.
Can I use a controller?
Not yet. Keyboard, mouse and touch.
